  • Crown on the Ground

Last April 9, 2006, I set the following long term goal: "stay alive until LOST series finale."

Only a few hours away from making it!  Then, honestly, may the fates do with me what they will.

To paraphrase Dostoevsky: Every man has some reminiscences which he would not tell to everyone, but only to his friends. He has others which he would not reveal even to his friends, but only to himself, and that in secret. But finally there are still others which a man is even afraid to write in his blog and every decent man has a considerable number of such things stored away. That is, one can even say that the more decent he is, the greater the number of such things in his mind.

That's maybe why I haven't felt so emotive lately.

I can remember the first time I heard The National.  I was right past Dairy Ashford going towards the pretty sunny flowery part of Terry Hershey park.  The first song I heard was "Fake Empire" from Boxer, which I downloaded thanks to its good reviews. It was like a baptism.  Then I also have some pretty strong memories of listening to Alligator while running through Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. And High Violet has proven to be quite helpful at this time in my existence.  Need to shore up seeing them at ACL this year.

It's good to be able to place records with certain parts of life.  Of Montreal and Dandy Warhols and Kings of Leon and Phoenix while running around Clark Field track at UT.  That was before I started listening to full albums.  I remember The Shins in Poland while making a 4 hour + midnight walk in the pitch black and cold snow on Christmas Eve in '08.  Modest Mouse circa September '05 at my apartment in Austin, on a stormy night.
