  • Easter Eggs Benedict

I've been signed up for this long bike race for a while, and I had only ridden my bike once (for maybe 20 minutes), so I figured some training was in order.

At the work happy hour thing the other day, I found out some workmates of mine were going on a 50 or so mile ride the next day, so I knew this was the perfect time to test myself and gauge my confidence.

So yesterday we set off, and altogether, I'd say it went well.  My new bootleg bike from Taiwan or something performed well, I did good, the sun drained me and that, but I'd say I'm ready, despite not training properly.

I didn't have any water bottle holder or package for food, so I had a bit of a disadvantage compared to my colleagues.  But what I lack in extras, I make up for with intensity and endurance and never-give-upness.

My bike gears sound a bit funny.  On certain gears it sounded like the Smoke Monster from LOST with all the clanking and crunching.  But after a few hours it seemed like it broke itself in.

    Simulation

I have the Capitol 10K in Austin next weekend.  The bad news is that I haven't been running because I just do the elliptical or stationary bike at the gym.  But, it'll be the third annual for me to be in.  If I don't beat my old times, so be it.  My muscles are meant to be tuned to bicycling for now anyway.

I spent Easter doing nothing.  I was too dead from the 55 mile training bike ride to visit family.  And I'll see my mom and them enough in 3 months for a long time when I make my epic return to Poland for a 2 week or so vacation.  Boom.  Last time I went was dead winter so hopefully there's over 5 hours of sunlight per day this time around.

    The True Meaning of Easter

I rode a train while traveling once, and that went alright, so if I could find some other weirdo town to go to via train from Krakow for a day or so, it could be good.

Spending money on vacations probably pays off in memories a lot better than just having that money in your account.  I often reminisce about good times going places, but not so often on the money I have that I bled away slowly.  Might as well use it towards something relatively epic.

One of the good things about my weird mental state, is that I very quickly forget about the torture of that 6 hour bike ride in the blazing sun, and it will seem like a long time ago.  But, for some reason, memories of me walking to school 3 years ago get filed in the "memories from yesterday" folder.
