  • Anecdotal Evidence

I love quotes.  I look for them everywhere.  Movies, TV shows, and especially lyrics.  I think it makes me feel good when a thought I have is expressed eloquently elsewhere.  It makes you feel connected and (cliche) not alone in the world.

But, more than just mirroring my feelings, I search for beauty in the written word everywhere.  It's something I appreciate.  And, ofttimes, something I repeat.

More often than not, I'll just borrow some lyrics or a quote and post it somewhere when it may have just a tangential connection to my life or what I feel at the time, or maybe no connection at all.  Like if I change the little bar under my facebook picture to something like "I'm Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass."  It's not that I'm mad at the time, I just like the title to the Yo La Tengo album.

I'm not James Joyce or anything trying to leave mysteries for future generations; my blog titles are usually random tidbits from something I'm listening to or watching at the time.

    Examples:
"If Something Is Lost Then There's Something To Frame" - Song lyric from "I Feel Weird" by Steel Train
"Stay Loose" - A Belle and Sebastian Song Title
"To Your F'ng Graves" - A cleaned up version of what the 1980 USA Hockey coach allegedly said to his team during the 3rd period of their gold medal hockey game: "If you lose this game, you'll take it to your fucking graves."
"Spitting Venom" - Modest Mouse song
"Straight In At 101" - Los Campesinos song
"Illegal Briefs" - Fictional movie title mentioned by Steve Merchant in a podcast
"Dragons in the Future" - Michael Bluth tells Gob (who has a sword and is on a Segway) that he looks like he's hunting for dragons in the future.

Anyway, here's this Funny Anecdote (hence this title)

The other day, I was preparing to watch LOST so I figured a LOST away message was in order.  I didn't feel like thinking, so I just put the standard: "See you in another life, brother" as said by my favorite character Desmond.

Whilst I'm away, I get a message from a coworker saying "TZ I thought something was wrong."  So I'm like, okay, whatever, and ignore it.

The next day, the coworker comes in to talk to me and says that she read the away message and thought something had happened to my little brother.  I.e. he had died or something and I was paying tribute via away message.  My eyes lit up with disbelief and my soul filled with hilarity.  I got the attention of my LOST fan cubemate and told him and we laughed and laughed.

    Coincidence is a funny mistress.

P.S. - To be honest, some of my blog titles are cryptic representations of the points in the blog or my thoughts at the time.  Maybe I'm towards writing something more like Ulysses after all.
