  • I'm Sorry You Had To See Me Like That

I've always been a huge fan of my boss at work. He's like my ultimate role model. But today took it to a new, better level.

Per usual on Wednesdays, me and my cube neighbor were talking about the previous night's LOST.  So, I had the episode in my head.  In one scene in the show, a guy is at a job interview and is asked, "What animal would you compare yourself to?"  So I had been thinking of that for a while.

The conclusion I came to initially was either a snow leopard or a wildebeest.  But the snow leopard is solitary, so employers wouldn't like that.  And wildebeests are mostly prey for lions and tigers so not good.

Eventually I settled on the wombat.  They have powerful claws and are marsupials.  And the kicker was when I read this: "When attacked, wombats dive into a nearby tunnel, using their rump to block a pursuing attacker. Wombats may allow an intruder to force its head over their back and then use its powerful legs to crush the skull of the predator against the roof of the tunnel, or drive it off with two-legged 'donkey' kicks."

And they are sort of cute.

P.S. - I change the picture on my desktop to something like the above from National Geographic everyday.  Today's animal was a dingo.

Anyway, I've digressed.  So my boss comes around and I ask him, "When you're doing an interview, do you ever ask people what animal they would compare themselves to?"  And he stopped for a second, and was like "Did you get that from the TV." And me and my fellow LOST-fan neighbor were like, "Yeah! LOST!"

Turned out our boss and his wife are huge LOST fans.  Going to sites for spoilers and stuff even.  His wife posts on boards and won't let him talk why the show is on.  Amazing.

Raised him 10 cool points.  I knew he was cool for liking football and being funny, but then you add in an appreciation for a mystery/semi-sci-fi show and the ability to follow it for years, that makes you a cool guy.  Shows you embrace your inner geekdom.

I'd run through a wall for this guy.
