I went to the
Austin City Limits Festival yesterday (henceforth referred to as ACL).
I was able to see 4 of the bands listed as my facebook favorites which is a big positive. The whole festival is a really fun thing all around. It combines some of my favorite hobbies: drinking, people watching, puttering around, music, wearing sunglasses.
Blitzen Trapper
Phoenix
A guy that looks like Kimbo Slice.
P.S. Black people are pretty rare at ACL. Weirdo white people are a much more common breed.
Like look at that cryptkeeper looking guy with long grey hair. In normal life, this would be a rare find. But at ACL, the old scraggy looking hippies are a dime a dozen.
Oh, and speaking of hippies, as the day went on, the smell of
hippie lettuce through the air was pretty omnipresent.
A View Of Downtown
My old pal Katie Smith (on left, known since 1995) Oh, one of the unfortunate side effects of 24 oz beers is the having to go to the bathroom, in this case, the port-o-potty. And, the lines are something like kilometres long. So it's best to go wait in the line at the first twinge of necessity, because by the time you get in, you'll probably already have liver cirrhosis.
But, as a positive, since you're spending something like 45 minutes in the bathroom line, you can make some friends. Like I made friends with these 30-or-so year old chicks. This one was pretty cool. She had lots of tattoos and whatnot. I think she dug me and my good bathroom line anecdotes too. She was single, but alas, had two kids, one of which was a 12-year-old girl. And that's right before the weird teenage years, and I can't handle being a stepfather to that. But she was still pretty cool.
My newfound friend from the bathroom line.Having tattoos is pretty cool there. Maybe next time I go I'll put on some fake ones to blend in better. My Aquaman shirt had to suffice this time.
Random view of the festivities
Andrew Bird. He rocked.Oh, and mega props to
Kings Of Leon for playing a lot of their older stuff and not just flogging the new album. Overall, it's really cool hearing these songs live by the artists after having them as the theme songs to my running/working/driving/life-in-general for years.
ACL is a good experience. Does sap my strength though; pretty tired right now. I'm not as young as I used to be. I think I'm older than my years anyway, because I'm sure those 30-year-old tattooed chicks will be going strong for days.

I was a few years older than you the first year of ACL--okay, maybe like one year old. And I stayed up nonstop...good times. Your young. you should be out there rocking away. Not tired.
