Politics I've never been a big fan of politics. I tried to pay attention to it once circa 2003 or so. But the more I watched the "news" channels and talking heads going on about policies and scandals and whatnot, the more I realized none of it really matters. It's like, at least when I watch a show about sports where guys give their opinions, they'll be proven right or wrong eventually on the field of play. There's a defined outcome. And it's fun.
When it comes to politics, all the talk only really comes down to anything tangible when it goes to a vote or election. And barely anyone votes or knows what's going on. And oftentimes the people elected based on a certain stance don't do anything anyway. Bottom line for me is that 99.9% of the time, I'm not going to be directly affected. I'm sure that's not true for some, but still, the effect is going to be largely negligible when compared to your life as a whole. I'm talking in a macro right-to-live sense, not in a slight tax difference sense. If you don't like being taxed more, spend less to make up for it. Easy.
But one problem I have with the whole political institution is that those in it are by definition politicians. And does anybody really like politicians? I mean, to get into the "business" in the first place, it takes a certain sort of personality. Alot more personality than skill, intelligence, or talent, really. To have any success in politics, you have to be kind of a smooth, sly, well-spoken, charismatic person - oftentimes to conman-esque levels. I know alot of really smart people who are none of that, so really they never have had or will have a chance to succeed in politics. Although, if given decision-making ability, I'm sure they'd be good.
A guy like
Ted Kennedy is a prime example of the problem with the political institution. Firstly, I'm staunchly against nepotism, so I've got a bias against the guy from the start. But if anyone out there was born to his mother/father and with that name, they'd end up in politics. Pre-disposed to the world. And frankly, I would have done alot more than him. Same goes with me in
G.W. Bush's role too, so I'm not toeing any political lines.
But, my goal here is to save the world, and I think the best way to do that is to take the people out of the politics. No more politicians. Period, point blank.
How? Too easy.
Everyone loves computers, yeah? Everyone knows computers are good at things like calculating and simulating and
porn websites and computing things. And everyone knows that computers usually dominate at things like
Chess. Because you can program the computer, it analyses all outcomes, wa-la, humans stand no chance.
Also,
Sim City came out in 1989.
1989. 20 years ago we had the power to simulate a whole city on a computer game. Then Sim City 2000 came out in 1993 and dominated exponentially more. Now, I haven't played Sim City in a while, but I'm sure it's even better now and can simulate a properly run government and the like no problem.
So, what I'm getting at is simple. Make a computer into the President. Feed it issues. Let it analyze possible outcomes of the passing/vetoing of a bill, it makes up its mind, spits out a solution. Repeat.
Should we attack a country? I don't know, plug in the stats. Let it run some calculations, tabulate the odds, give the answer.
Computers don't accept bribes. Computers don't have sexual relations with interns. Computers aren't below-average IQ. And if you want, give it some fancy accent and a cool looking avatar and let it give some annual summary for the State of the Union address.
No politicing. No time-wasting. Just pure math, science, and statistics. Benevolent computer dictatorship - your choice for 2012.

"No politicing." should be "No politicking." Where's your spell check?
politicing
Bullshitting, like politics. When you are holding a joint and talking while everyone waits for u to pass that shit. When you have a drink and its only partially gone after a long time because you are distracted and not getting fucked up enough like you planned
"Damn girl...Quit politicing and drink your beer!"
"Stop politicing with that spliff and pass that shit"
