Life As A Kite
I am THIS CLOSE to balling up and getting a ticket to ACL for this coming weekend. I can't gaurantee I'd have someone to go with, but that's not a primary concern.
One highlight of the weekend was discovering a couple of new awesome bands: Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes. They are both extremely chill and extremely good. Here's an impromptu review.
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago: This album is awesome. It was recorded by one guy as he stayed alone in a cabin for 3 months in Wisconsin.
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes: This album seems like its 40 years past its time. Which is what makes it so great that it's out now.
So, I was contemplating going to ACL, so I thought, "Hey, if either of these bands are there, I'll go." Then low and behold, Fleet Foxes are there, so technically if I honored my promises to myself, I would be going. But who better to lie to than yourself? I'm just going to hold back and see if I'm swayed in either direction over the course of this week.
Both of those albums I mentioned are really low key and laid back so it will help keep me relaxed at work. And, dare I say, happy.
Hearing the story of Bon Iver hanging out in a cabin all winter, combined with the awesome cinematography in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, I'm almost inspired to go spend like a month walking around Canada.
But alas, I am using all my vacation time, and about 1,400 clams, to go to Poland this Christmas time. It will be snowy there, though, so I can go wonder around the mountains and pretend it's Canada.
Just imagine that above is me instead of Brad Pitt. And instead of a dude with a horse behind me, I'm by myself. Or with some sexy mermaid. That's my dream.
My half-marathon is less than 5 weeks ago. Uh oh. Training starts: right now. Getting more regimented on the nutrition, get steadily increasing running going. It's all good.
I've started learning as I matured that a great album beats an awesome single. This goes for music, and you know what, it goes for people. Friends, romantic interests, anyone
Maybe at first nothing sticks out, but taken as a whole, it's really something to behold. And alot of times, you're hooked by something right away, but when that fades, you realize there's not much else. Music and people. I'm a master metaphorian.
How do you apply this? Hold judgement. Take everything in. There's a good chance you'll end up surprised, either pleasantly or not.
