  • For Whom The Road Tolls

They opened up the toll roads around here to anyone free of charge.  It is to help traffic around the city in the post-hurricane recovery period blah blah blah.

It is so annoying.  As everyone knows, I am one of the priviledged daily toll road users in this city.  We are a unique breed.  We are equipped with EZ-Tags to let us zoom past toll booths, and we are equipped with brains that are equipped with the ability to equip our wallets with enough money to pay the tolls.

So, when I'm on the road normally, I have some slight respect for the drivers next to me. "Oh, you would rather pay money for this easier route than not pay money and be in traffic all day? Me too. You are my friend."

But now, with all this riff-raff on, it is way more crowded. And it's impossible to differentiate the smart, rich drivers from the poor, stupid drivers who are more prone to slamming into your car.

I wish a toll type system would be initiated into other parts of life.  Like the lines at the grocery store.  Why do I have to wait with these trolls who don't know how to use the self-service line? Charge a fifty cent premium, and I gaurantee you'll weed half the morons out.

I mean, there are alot of reasons to use self-checkout, and less ignoramuses would make it even better.

Go ahead and ditto that for every line ever anywhere.

I got so bored at one point lately that I started posting on these NFL message boards.  One thing I did was convert players statistics from yards to "metres" and talk about it that way.  I know it is sort of a pathetic way to have fun.  But, what is even more pathetic is exactly how much fun I had.

For the record: I'm a big proponent of the metric system.  They force me to do it at work sometimes.  I'm not totally comfortable in my daily life with kilograms and kilometres yet, but the pressure values are alot easier and since we use litres so much, it's good for volume too.

Also, I must spell metre, etc. with the r before the e. It's way more sophisticated.  And it's like they teach you in school, "R before E except when it doesn't make sense to me."
