  • Old Man in the Hot Hot Sun

The worst part about summer school is as I expected - walking in the hot ass sun.  My 1.2 miles each way trek wasn't that bad in the fall, or even the spring.  But now, ugh.

I am literally in a sweat as I type having just walked home in the midday heat.

Being that as it is, I have started taking the bus to school if I go at midday.  That way I won't look like a sweaty pig when I arrive.  I still walk to school in the morning being that I leave at about 8am and it's still nice outside.

Anyway, I was on the bus yesterday and some old goon was on there too.  He was about 100, could barely move, and hat a big ass straw hat on.  And some horrible chicklets (teeth). I knew he would be trouble when he first got on...

Old Man: I'm looking for the West Campus bus. What bus is this?
    Driver: West Campus.
    Old Man: What?
    Driver: West Campus.
Old Man: I'm sorry I'm so damn blind.

Then the old man sat near me.  At one point, we came to a stop where the bus driver gets out to take his customary break and get back on bus schedule I guess.

While I was satiated with my Tetris, the old man was overcome by his senality during this hiatus.  He started talking and saying random statements.  But whenever I looked over, he wasn't looking at me, so he was just talking to himself outloud I guess.

Some of the stuff he said included:
    "Damnation"
    "Hell's Bells"
"I've wasted half my life waiting on busses."

Then he started reading things and converting them to Spanish, even though he did not look Hispanic:
    "Veinte-cinco"
    "La musica"

Then he just sighed and moaned for a while.  Eventually the bus driver came back and we were off.  I got off at the next stop and I'll never see that senile old dude ever again.

Where was he going on the West Campus bus? What was his mission? How many hours did he have left to live? I guess I'll never know.
