Politics and Religion
The jerkoff with stupid ass music and Anne Coulter's ugly face on his blog has inspired me to think about politics. For about 20 or so years of my life, I'd claim I was a Republican. This is mostly because I grew up with a stepdad who identified with the Republican party. I'd say most people will identify with their parents until they get somewhere into the actual world.
As recent as the last Presidential election, I woulda said George Bush ruled and being a Republican is cool blah blah.
Now, I couldn't tell you what I am. I think Democrats and Republicans both suck. I think George Bush is a muppet. I don't identify with anything Democratic.
I don't see the issues in black and white, and all my theories as to how things should be done are deemed "illegal" or "cruel and unusual."
I'm undecided on abortion. My optimum solution would be allowing abortion, but under the constraint that the mother wanting an abortion should also accept death.
On that note, I'm pro mandatory contraception and/or sterilization.
Have 10 kids and siphon off of the government? Consider your tubes tied.
On that note, I'm anti-welfare.
I'm pro gun control.
I'm undecided on gay marriage.
I believe in less taxes.
I'm undecided on the Iraq war. I like destroying countries, but I don't see why we have to help them rebuild. I'd consider the Iraq war a failure in that regard.
Ideally, I'd attack Hussain for being a threat, beat him, say "we win", and leave.
I'm pro death penalty. It should be used liberally.
I'm anti-drugs and tobacco.
I'm for stricter border control.
I'm anti affirmative action.
I guess my perfect government would be summed up as follows: No frivolous lawsuits will be entertained. Crimes will be punished harshly. Welfare will be given sparingly and must be heavily justified. No social security. Money will be automatically taken from paychecks and put in a money-market account to be received in full upon retirement. Merit will be the lone consideration for all jobs and school applications. Special consideration may be made for financial concerns.
And take it all with a grain of salt, because, admittedly, I'm not the most informed person on these issues.Religion
Today in the west mall there was a huge conglomerate of suckers with pamphlets. They attempted to approach me, but my scowl scared them off. I did however hear them talking to others.
Their pamplet says, "What happens when you die?"
Then I heard one of them touting Jesus to some people. I heard alot of people telling them that they didn't know what happened when they died, or explain their religion to them.
I heard one of the religious horde say: "Would you like to believe there's an afterlife?"
My answer would be, what the hell. I want to believe I have wings but that doesn't make it true. If I wasn't in a hurry to buy some water I woulda informed them how you just decompose when you die.
I heard one girl explaining that humans are different than trees because we have souls.
That's so damn conceited. We don't have souls. We are biological just like everything else. Of course, humans want to believe their lives have meaning blah blah and that's all fine and dandy if that helps you get through the day.
I think when you're dead, you're dead. Does that make me any meaner? Does that make me commit crimes? Does that make me not try to have some semblance of a good life?
No way. I figure if you have a chance at life, you might as well make the most of it. That's the only logical thing to do.
I just can't believe in modern religion. I refuse to believe that something so important happened but 2,000 years ago. I think it's just the self-importance of humans that makes them think there's a higher power that cares about them. No one cares about you.
Religion is very very reliant on where you were born and what your family was. If I was born in India and was Buddhist and was killed at 10 never having heard of Christianity, is it fair that I'm sentenced to hell?
Is God so self-righteous to require that a bunch of organisms on a random blue ball floating through space pay him proper respect? And is he so twisted as to torture these insignificant beings for all of eternity if they are somehow misguided in their lives?
Dinosaurs roamed the earth for thousands of times more years than we have. Was that just a fun entertaining interlude? Then God decided it was time to start caring?
If you're offended, I'm sorry. If you think I'm wrong, I may be. If you think I'm misguided, I probably am.
People might think that I'd be more optimistic and hopeful and happy and all that bollocks if I had some sort of religion to inspire me. But what I think is what I think. And faking it won't do it. Maybe as I come closer to facing my own mortality, I'll cling to the idea of an afterlife and whatnot.
But to all of this, I think the only answer is:
who knows?Just joking. I follow the teaching of Zeus.
